News sources named Chelsea and Newcastle United, two giants in the league who are competing for a top-four spot, both wanting Delap.
Reports last Tuesday revealed that the “Red Devils”, the 16th ranked team, have become the favorites to secure the signature of the 22-year-old striker. Delap
just moved out of Manchester City, the club that raised him, last summer. But he is willing to join his former city rivals at Old Trafford.
However, there is a key factor that could change Delap’s mind – his performance in the Europa League final, which will decide whether United reach the Champions League. The
England Under-21 international is contracted to the Championship until 2029 but has a £30million release clause following relegation.
Ipswich signed Delap from City for £20m and in his first season in the Premier League, he made 35 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists – just not enough to help Kieran McKenna’s side out of 18th
place. Delap had previous loan spells at Stoke, Preston and Hull, scoring a combined 12 goals in 68 Championship appearances.
